Overview

Last 100 km of the Coastal Camino

Discover breath-taking landscapes and live unforgettable moments!

Baiona, both a tourist destination and an active fishing port, is located in the south of the Rias Baixas region, and is protected from the open sea by a breathtakingly beautiful bay.

If you start your Camino in Baiona you will have the opportunity to walk the Coastal Camino for the first couple of days, before you reach the main route and continue to Santiago.

Baiona is a coastal town that was the focus for trade in the region until the spectacular development of Vigo that took place at the end of the 19th century. Movement on the Vigo estuary is marked by commercial and fishing vessels, all under the watchful eye of Baiona, located alongside Cape Silleiro. The town’s most attractive streets are set around the bay, which open up next to the mouth of Miñor River. It was here that the La Pinta moored in 1493, the first caravel to reach port after the voyage of discovery to the New World. Don’t miss the sunset from Monterreal Fort and its famous Príncipe Tower. It has three kilometres of defensive walls and is now a Parador Hotel. Spot the Cies islands and floating mussel farms in the Ria de Vigo lagoon before joining pilgrims from the Central Way in Redondela to follow the same path to Santiago de Compostela.

Among the highlights between Redondela and Santiago are the historical city of Pontevedra, the riverside spa town of Caldas de Reis and Padrón, another pretty town which is where the boat carrying St. James’ body is said to have landed.
